Active Data Online ThreadedComments is a lightweight, XML-driven message board, encapsulated in an ASP.NET user control. ThreadedComments is ideal for online newspapers, magazines, and the like, that need an embedded, threaded discussion area. The control can also be used to create a guestbook of sorts, allowing website visitors to post comments and feedback.
By design, ThreadedComments can easily integrate into an existing ASP.NET website. The control can be placed on as many aspx pages as may be required, each with its own XML data store.
The presentation of ThreadedComments is controlled by two XSL files: TC_Threads.xsl and TC_Message.xsl. For this reason, it is possible to alter the presentation of your ThreadedComments board by modifying the XSL code.
ThreadedComments offers a simple, no-frills solution. Those looking for a message board that includes a database backend, unicode support, a localised GUI, WYSIWYG editing capabilities, icons, file attachments, user management, forms or Windows authentication, moderation, automated word censorship, content searching, reply notification, private messages, and more, should consider MessageBoard or the more advanced MessageBoard2000.
ThreadedComments is powered by Microsoft .NET (v 1.1.4322) and written in C#.

Features
- ThreadedComments can store and provide unlimited messages, threaded properly.
- The control is reusable. It can be placed on any aspx page. Each instance of the control uses its own XML data file.
- It supports UTF-8 encoded character sets. Thus, it can accept, store and present information in some non western languages.
- ThreadedComments can also support an existing user authentication system. By filling the ASP.NET session TC_Author before a message is posted, the author of the message will be taken from the session variable TC_Author.
- All dates are stored in local time (based on the server) with a GMT offset.
- The system will record and display the IP address of an author, as a very basic means to identity anonymous posts. But this can be removed or hidden from display by altering the XSL stylesheet.
- HTML and client side script tags are prevented. This avoids the risk of malicious client-side scripting attacks.
The data store is XML.
- As mentioned, the presentation of ThreadedComments is controlled by two XSL files. The files are open and can easily be adapted to suit your needs.
- An application identifier (TC_) is used to mark files, application settings, and session objects. In consequence, the system can easily integrate into an existing ASP.NET website.
- The software is packaged in a self extracting zipped file and delivered digitally via www.activedataonline.com.au.
