Shopping cart software to implement highly professional and efficient online stores. Shopping cart CGI and catalogs are generated and installed automatically on your server or on our secure server. Fully customizable shopping cart catalogs and shopping cart cgi pages.
The following features of the software are designed to make catalog and CGI building easy and intuitive for a non-technical person. No programming skills are required and very little HTML design skills are expected.
- Create new catalogs from a list of products.The product details are maintained as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (or any other format) which can be exported as a Tab-delimited text file containing the following columns. A sample 'products.txt' file is included with the program installation. The 'Catalogs' module in the program takes the above products.txt file to auto-generate catalogs in a format of your choice.
- Insert cart controls into existing pages.If the HTML pages describing the products are already available, it is possible to insert an "Add to Cart" button on the page next to each product. This is done by first marking the insertion points in the page as [wsc;CatalogNo] where 'CatalogNo' is a unique ID for the product. The 'Insert Into Existing Page' tab in the 'Catalogs' window will ask for price and other details for the product and insert the cart controls to replace the respective insertion points. Instead of typing in each product detail interactively, you can use the products.txt file that contains the specified product.
- The CGI that can be resided on own server will be created automatically.One of the unique features of our software is that it lets you reside the entire system, catalogs and CGIs, on your own webserver. Unlike most other shopping carts, which exclusively uses their server to run the CGIs, this software gives a choice. You can, of course, use our secure server to run the CGI by paying a nominal monthly fee (see below).
- Choose to run a CGI on WebGenie's secure server.If the webserver at your site does not permit CGI execution, or has other problems that make it slow or inoperable for CGIs, the option 'Catalogs|Catalogs on your server and CGI on WebGenie's secure server' will make catalogs that call a CGI from our secure server. Please note that the use of our secure server for the first 3 months is free but thereafter incurs a fee (from $14 per month; see prices)
- Only a one-time licence fee ($495) if using the CGI on your server.When the CGI is residing on your server there is no ongoing fees to be paid for its use. While it is relatively easy to install the CGI on your server, it is up to you to install it. We shall be happy to install it on your server (fee: $95) if any technical problem(s).
- No limit on number of catalogs and products per catalog.The program imposes no limit on the number of products in the 'products.txt' file or the number of products displayed on each catalog page. You can have one or ten thousand (or more) products. However, when trying to make a single page catalog containing a large number of products the 'Dropdown List' format is probably the one suitable, as the other formats will make the resulting page of very large size and taking too long to download and display.
- Catalogs and CGIs are created by "point and click" method.The various options for the catalog and CGI are set via intuitive modules within the program which let you type in the details or select option buttons.
- No programming skills and very little designing skills required.It is not necessary to know any Perl programming to generate the CGIs. Having a basic understanding of HTML will help modify the templates and the auto-generated catalogs. If using Microsoft Front Page the catalogs can, in most cases, be edited without corrupting them. We recommend a plain text editor, or the source form editing via Front Page, to edit the templates and catalogs in order to avoid inadvertently deleting the hidden fields in there required for the CGI to work properly.
- It is possible to use a pre-designed template to create the catalogs.Another unique feature of our software is that it can use a template HTML file to generate catalogs in a uniform format. In order to create the templates, you must start with the samples provided in the program installation directory. Care must be taken not to delete or rearrange the hidden tags
- Pre-designed templates can be used to display the CGI-generated pages.Templates can be used by the CGI to display the 'Cart Contents', 'Payment Desk' etc. This helps give a uniform look and feel to the pages that blend with your site's look and feel.
- Orders are received as email.The CGI enables your customer to add item(s) from one or more catalogs to the cart, alter the quantity ordered, choose tax and shipping, go to payment desk and place the order. An email containing the order together with delivery and payment details will be sent to the 'Sales_email' address. By default, the credit card details are sent in the email for later processing. If required, a payment gateway (see below) can be used to process the card online in real-time.
- Payment gateways can be used.Three built-in payment gateways (CyberCash, WorldPay and iTransact) are available currently. More will be added later. Other paymnt gateways, if any, can be custom built into the CGI (at a cost) if enough details are given.
- Real-time interface to UPS rate calculator.If using UPS delivery of goods, it is possible to obtain the appropriate rates via a real-time interface to the UPS rate calculator. For this, check the 'UPS' button in the 'Cart Options' dialog box within the program.
